Tristan Klotz described in one word: “consistent.” He’s consistent in his attendance, effort, and attitude. Tristan is focused and strong and determined, but he’s always watching other athletes to offer encouragement or advice. Read on to learn more about our March Athlete of the Month!

WHAT INITIALLY GOT YOU INTO CROSSFIT AND WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?

I got into CrossFit because of my wife, Kirsten. At the time I was really overweight and lazy, and really did not want to work out with “bros” at a regular gym, so she suggested I try CrossFit. I remember telling Kirsten if there were a bunch of meatheads at this gym, I was not coming back. Needless to say, everybody at my first CrossFit gym was pretty cool and I kept coming back. I’d say the reason that I keep coming back is because I like the atmosphere at our gym. When I injured my back and had to take some time off and go to a regular gym, it was SO boring. Here everybody pushes each other to get better.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF. WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?

I’m an Audi Technician at Audi Hoffman Estates. I’ve always got an acute fascination with things that go fast, and would someday like to build my own CrossKart or shifter cart. I also love skiing out west in the winter with with my wife Kirsten and in the summer I love being up in northern WI at our cottage fishing. I also like growing my own vegetables and building things in the garage

WHAT’S AN ACCOMPLISHMENT OR GOAL YOU’VE REACHED DUE TO CROSSFIT THAT’S MADE YOU THE MOST PROUD?

Reaching the 200# mark for full snatch, though that was a while ago....

IF THERE WAS ONE CROSSFIT MOVEMENT YOU’D LIKE TO PERFECT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Stupid ring muscle ups.....grrr or handstand walks

ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE INTERESTED IN TRYING OUT CROSSFIT?

Definitely come and try it out! It’s hard but it’s worth the work. I’d say don’t get frustrated. We all had to start somewhere and learn, and it takes a while. It took me three long years to get stupid double unders, and after 5 years I still can’t do a ring muscle up. You just have to keep working at it.
